Champions League: Tyler Adams helps fire RB Leipzig into semifinals

RB Leipzig, in its current form, was founded just 11 years ago after the billionaire founder of Red Bull took over German fifth-tier team SSV Markranstadt and the team has been climbing the football ladder ever since.
“Great feelings for the club and our team. As a manager you have to expect,” 33-year-old RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann told BT Sport after the game.
“We have to prepare for the next game. There’s not much time to celebrate but maybe we’ll have a beer in the hotel then focus on PSG.
“The club (RB Leipzig) has grown very quickly since then. We have reached the Bundesliga and qualified for the Champions League three times. We are still in the Champions League. The progress is faster than usual.”
History made
Atletico Madrid may be a bit more popular against their German opponents, but the Spain kit has failed to impress.
It could have played without striker Angel Correa and defender Sime Vrsaljkowho, both of whom have tested positive for coronavirus, but have enough on-field experience to put up a better performance.
Bringing Felix on in the second half seemed to give Atletico fresh impetus, but in the end the 20-year-old’s converted penalty did nothing.
As the match seemed to be decided in extra time, Adams’ speculative late shot knocked Stefan Savic out to end the game in 90 minutes – sending RB Leipzig into their first Champions League semi-final.
Adams, who has made 10 appearances for the US national team, moved to Leipzig from the New York Red Bulls in January 2019. He became the first American to score in a Champions League quarter-final with a goal. his first for the club.
Adams told BT Sport after the game: “Now it’s about recovering properly, settling down mentally and planning the game.
“We’re confident in ourselves, you saw that today.”
