CD Projekt Red President Insists Company not for sale

It’s been a tumultuous year for CD Projekt Red, the Polish development studio behind The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. The studio has seen its reputation dwindle due to Cyberpunk 2077’s long list of technical problems and bug, PlayStation was so severe that it was temporarily unavailable for sale on PSN. The studio is still not fully recovered and now Chairman Adam Kiciński has had to insist the company is not for sale.

During a recent investor presentation, Kiciński answered a question about whether the studio would consider finding another investor or strategic partner. Kiciński responded as before, saying that CD Projekt Red wants to be independent of any major oversight and has no “plans to become part of a larger entity.” Kiciński also states that the company has safeguards in place against a potential hostile takeover.

Kiciński reminded investors that CD Projekt Red has made a number of acquisitions of its own, including Fire in the flood The Molasses Flood developer. Although it’s not quite that significant, the development studio also hired Cyberpunk 2077 modder to help fix the game and implement better mod support, both of which will go a long way toward restoring trust in the studio if successful.

Not surprisingly, investors questioned whether CD Projekt Red could be acquired by a larger company. It’s hard to understand how bad Cyberpunk 2077 boot is gone to the company, leaving a lasting stain on its reputation that may never fade. Microsoft has also made some famous acquisitions in the last few years, and spending money to buy CD Projekt Red does not seem impossible after Microsoft acquired Bethesda. It’s even possible that PlayStation could buy it as a way to appeal to fans who were impressed by Microsoft’s acquisition.

Of course, it doesn’t matter if CD Projekt Red is not ready to be purchased in the first place. However, even though Cyberpunk 2077’s disastrous release, the studio is also behind The Witcher 3, often hailed as one of the Best RPG of all time. With that in mind, the studio will certainly fetch a premium price.

Things could change in the future, but CD Projekt Red seems to want to stay independent for now. That might be for the best, as CD Projekt has another game in development and still has a lot of promise to fulfill. Cyberpunk 2077. Any acquisition from the outside can add water to the mud.
