Casey Goodson Jr. shooting: Deputy Jason Meade charged with black murder in Columbus

Jason Meade, a 17-year veteran of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, was charged with two counts of murder and one count of reckless homicide. Meade, who is white, shot Goodson, 23, in a fatal incident on December 4, 2020, that did not involve camera or console footage. Goodson’s relatives say he was entering his grandmother’s house carrying Subway sandwiches when Meade repeatedly shot him as the deputy was looking for an unrelated fugitive. The deputy’s attorney argued that Goodson pointed a gun at the officer.
