Can you trade Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon GO?

Pokemon GO filled with many different Pokemon with different types, looks and abilities. However, some of the rarest Pokemon are Legendary Pokemon, many of which are only available for a limited time.
Completing the Pokedex can be difficult to obtain these hard-to-find Legendaries, a lot Pokemon GO players trade with friends. Luckily, Legendaries can be traded and this can be a great way to fill those pesky Pokedex slots.
Unfortunately, trading Legendary Pokemon can come with a hefty Stardust cost, which may be more of an issue for some players than others. The price of the transaction is determined by the Pokemon being traded and how close the relationship between the two parties is.
Let’s look at how much Stardust it takes to trade a Legend, and how to reduce that number and make these trades more affordable.

How much Stardust to trade Legendary Pokemon
When trading Legendaries, the base cost is 1,000,000 Stardust. This price can be reduced to 20,000, if the player gets a Pokemon there was a legend Pokemon registered in their Pokedex. As players increase their friendship with each other, this price will decrease even more.
Here is a helpful chart, with “Registered” and “New” applicable to the player is receiving legendary:

Note: Pokemon are traded in alternative forms or event dress unobtained by the player is also considered unregistered, like the various forms of Giratina or Armored Mewtwo.
Sometimes, limited-time events offer friendship-related benefits. It’s rare that trade prices are discounted, so keep an eye out.
Special deals
Players can only make one Special Deal per day. These Special Deals are any of the following:
- Unregistered Pokemon
- Legendaries
- Shiny Pokemon
- Unregistered form or Pokemon with skins
During some special events, the Special Trade limit is lifted, allowing multiple times per day.
Pokemon cannot be traded
While most Legendary Pokemon are tradable, Mythical Pokemon cannot be traded. The only exception to this rule is Meltan and Melmetal. With this in mind, all currently non-tradable Pokemon are:
- Mew
- Celebi
- Jirachi
- Deoxys (Normal Form, Attack Form, Defense Form, and Speed Form)
- Darkrai
- Victini
- Genesect (any Drive)
- Meloetta
- Hoopa (No tie or restriction)
- Zarude
- Pokemon attacked
- Pokemon is now set as Buddy
- Pokemon is now guarding the gym
- Pokemon not in healthy state
- Egg
- Shadow Pokemon
- Pokemon has been traded
While these restrictions may seem harsh, they are useful if an account is compromised and someone tries to steal their Pokemon. However, with shiny Pokemon also following these prices, it can be difficult for players to trade some of their more shiny Pokemon.
