Calgary Stampede Parade to return after 2 years of cancellations due to COVID-19 – Calgary

The familiar sounds of music, cheering children and excited audiences await you on July 8 at Calgary’s 9 Avenue at 3 Street SE.


The legendary Calgary Stampede Parade is scheduled to begin there this year. The event will officially kick off the 10-day celebration.

The parade starts at 9am and lasts about two hours. In a press release Wednesday, Calgary Stampede officials said audiences can expect a lineup of more than 90 participants this year, including marching bands, floats and mounted color parties.

“The Calgary Stampede Parade Committee is committed to getting back to doing what it loves — hosting a full parade,” said Dwayne Spence, committee chair.

“We’ve put together a great lineup with many of the traditional entries that Calgarians look forward to as well as a few new surprises.”

Other highlights of this year’s parade include a colorful newcomer from the Mexican consulate and another from Calgary’s Ukrainian community, who will march in solidarity with Ukrainians amid the ongoing war.

Men playing the bagpipes in traditional kilts and some real sheriffs will also take part in the parade.

Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Costner has been named Parade Marshal of the 2022 Calgary Stampede

Parade Marshal Kevin Costner will perform at the event.

The 2022 Calgary Stampede Parade will also welcome third-generation rancher John Scott as an honorary parade marshal. His company, John Scott Productions, is heavily involved in the local film industry. For more than 50 years it has been presenting southern Alberta on small and large screens.

Calgary Stampede organizers said they also want to recognize the last two parade marshals. Both were selected as representatives, although there had not been a full parade in the previous two years. Katari Right Hand (Marshal 2021) and Filipe Masetti Leite (2020) will both ride in this year’s parade.

Starting at 7:30am on July 8, 30 acts – made up of more than 1,500 performers – will also be in attendance to heat up the crowd before the official parade begins.

Following the parade, guests have free entry to Stampede Park between 11:00 am and 1:30 pm
