Burberry Team with Marcus Rashford in Youth Literacy Program – WWD

LONDON – Burberry once again partnered with international soccer player Marcus Rashford, this time to support literacy programs for children.

As part of the initiative, Rashford and the British brand will support organizations that work with disadvantaged children, and help them develop literacy skills.

With the goal of ensuring that children around the world have access to a safe environment where they can develop their skills, the brand will also donate books and fund the creation of libraries around the world. throughout the UK, USA and Asia.

“We have identified a real need here,” said Rashford, a youth campaigner who has successfully campaigned for the British government to provide free meals to children while they are not in school. He has also founded a book club, through which he distributes books to children from low-income communities.

“Too many children currently lack access to books, typically due to financial constraints, and there is a need to inspire them and allow them to see beyond the challenges they face every day. These kids need the escapism of reading more than most, and access to books shouldn’t be restricted by the region you grew up in.”

He added that coming out of the pandemic, “there is a huge need for a safe space – a space where children can come and breathe; process their emotions. ”

Football star who previously starred in Burberry Campaigns and works with the brand to support youth charities around the world, says he is proud of what he and the brand have achieved, building on their work.
