Browns GM Andrew Berry addresses Baker Mayfield’s future, focusing on team’s winning games in December

NS Cleveland Browns didn’t live to Super Bowl expectations over the course of 12 weeks, coming in 6-6 and third in the AFC North – but only half a game out of the final playoff spot in the congress. As the Browns head into goodbye week, there’s still plenty of time to turn their season around.
The question remains unanswered regarding the future of Baker Mayfield, who has been battling shoulder and ankle injuries that have hampered his form. With one year remaining on his rookie contract, it’s time for Mayfield to show up.
Browns general manager and executive vice president of football operations Andrew Berry were in no rush to make a decision.
“I don’t know if it’s too much about showing me anything,” Berry said. “Really, our focus is on winning the games and playing at a high enough level to allow us to get into a solid position in December. That’s really the focus. I think Baker have shown a lot over the past three seasons, so I don’t necessarily accept this view that there’s something in these next five games that is particularly central, so to speak.”
Mayfield completed 62.2% of his passes in 2,413 yards with 11 touchdowns to six interceptions with a passer rate of 89.9. Over 12 games last season, Mayfield completed 62.7% of his passes in 2,442 yards with 21 touchdowns to 7 interceptions with a passer rate of 97.9.
Of the 34 qualifying midfielders, Mayfield ranks 27th in completion rate, 24th in pass-to-contact ratio, 26th in touchdown rate (3.5), 11th in interception rate (1.9). and 20th in passer rating. There’s no question who the Browns’ starter will continue, even if Berry wants to push back the biggest decision facing the franchise until the season is over.
“Baker is our midfielder. He’s fit enough to win for us. He’s won for us in the last couple of weeks. If he’s available he’ll be the starter. head for us,” Berry said. “Our focus is on playing our best football in December and positioning ourselves to really play this season because we have a lot of games that mean a lot and that really. significantly outweigh any individual decisions by each player on the roster we will make.
“There’s going to be plenty of time to think about how we’re going to build the squad next year, but at the end of the day everyone’s focus and energy within the organization is making sure we’re doing everything in our power. themselves to maximize the current season.”
The Browns are banking on good week for Mayfield going forward. For the franchise’s sake, Cleveland is hoping his starting quarterback can turn his season around.
