Broadway Fan Favorites ‘Hadestown,’ ‘Waitress’ Return After 17-Month Shutdown – CBS New York

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Shut down for practically 18 months due to COVID, Broadway‘s getting again in enterprise, and Thursday evening was an enormous evening.

As CBS2’s Dana Tyler reviews, it was curtain up on two fan favorites — Tony-winning Greatest Musical “Hadestown” and “Waitress,” starring Grammy winner Sara Bareilles.

There was a standing ovation and rousing applause for Bareilles and the solid of “Waitress,” the primary musical to open on Broadway because the pandemic.

Along with starring in “Waitress,” Bareilles additionally wrote the music and lyrics.

Throughout the curtain name on the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, there was a poignant second on stage. Bareilles launched Amanda Kloots, the spouse of Broadway actor Nick Cordero, who died from COVID-19 complications in July 2020.

“You’ve gotten walked via this horrible time with a lot grace and a lot knowledge,” Bareilles stated to Kloots.

Cordero was a member of the unique “Waitress” solid, and this manufacturing is devoted to him.

The musical received eight Tony Awards in 2019.

Jewelle Blackman performs one of many Fates in “Hadestown.” She spoke to CBS2 about coming again to Broadway.
