Warren Gatland is unhappy with the lack of a neutral TMO for Saturday’s first test
The British and Irish champions are unhappy that South African Marius Jonker has been appointed as the head of the television game for Saturday’s first test against Springbox.
Brandon Pickerill of New Zealand was forced to avoid the pandemic due to travel problems, and Jonker replaced the series in Cape Town.
It is understood that the Lions will force the world governing body to appoint a neutral TMO for the second and third trials of the series.
World rugby used ‘home’ TMO rugby championships last year, but the referee refused to referee the match involving his country.
Jonker as TMO for Lions ’17 -13 defeated South Africa ‘A’, the only loss of tourists on the current trip.
Gutland was upset that Springbox scrum-nymph Fuff de Clerk was sent off for a fight against Lyon wrestler Josh Navid.
The Lions leader was aiming for a clear search for the incident with officials and said last week: “I don’t understand where the comments contacted the chief.
“Someone was watching a different scene for me. I thought it seemed pointless.

“You don’t have any hands and he hits you first on the hand and then on the shoulder, but of course there’s contact to the head.”
South African rugby director Rassie Erasmus responded to Gatland’s criticism of De Clerk and tweeted videos that he considered dangerous equipment against the Lions half of Owen Farrell.
