Borderlands fans create real life version of attack on Dragon Keep’s Mimic

A Borderlands fan created a real-life version of the monster that mimics Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep to celebrate Tiny Tina’s Wonderland.
Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep is one of the most loved DLC packs for border zone 2. Now Tiny Tina will return to the chair of Dungeon Master in the upcoming title Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, some fans are looking back at what they loved most about the original DLC. In particular, one fan decided to re-enact Tiny Tina’s take on the Mimic, a quintessential work Dungeons and Dragons monster, to celebrate the upcoming launch of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
Mimics are a type of monster often depicted as being able to shapeshift to attract prey. These creatures vary in size and often take the form of treasure chests, crates, and other inanimate objects as they lie in wait for unwary adventurers. Mimics found in some video games, but Tiny Tina’s wearing them stands out from the pack in sheer durability.
Redditor Imperial_Fist_Bumps shared some photos of their attempt at recreating a simulation from Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep. Their mimicry features a chest-shaped exterior that allows the character to disguise itself as an ordinary treasure chest and inside a tooth-covered ape. The inside of the chest is pink and sculpted to resemble the inside of the mouth, with giant rib-like fangs protruding from the upper and lower sides. The box can also be latched or unlatched to hold the box.
According to Imperial_Fist_Bumps, the simulation shown here is a sculpture originally created using Monster clay, a wax-based sculpting compound. Monster clay does not dry out or shrink, but it temporarily softens under heat and can be reused indefinitely. Reportedly, Imperial_Fist_Bumps scanned the original sculpture into a computer and 3D printed the casting with different box sizes. The final imitation was hand-painted with acrylic paint and ink in honor of Upcoming Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
As of writing, it seems other fans are impressed by the creation of Imperial_Fist_Bumps. Some users applauded their hard work, with one going as far as claiming that the sculpture could have get out right away Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep. Other users have started sharing stories of their encounters with the imitators in border zone 2. The other three began treating the sculpture as if it were a real imitation, saying that they were about to risk it all – perhaps to open the imitation – or that they immediately checked to see if the work was done. Where will the imitation come from?
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands launches March 25, 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
