Book review of Mystery: A Seduction, A Strategy, A Solution by Jonah Lehrer

One would possibly shrug off the query as apparent. After all we’re tantalized by the unknown; it’s a reality so fundamental in our make-up as human beings that it hardly appears price investigating. However in “Mystery: A Seduction, a Strategy, a Solution,” Lehrer goes past the plain to look at the psychological and scientific underpinnings of our responses to the mysterious. He pursues his quest far and extensive, via explorations of literature, motion pictures, music, sports activities and playing, to call only a few of his forays. It’s a mammoth activity that calls for cautious, exhaustive analysis — a requirement made extra important by Lehrer’s previous troubles. Two of his earlier books had been pulled from circulation as a result of he was caught recycling outdated materials, plagiarizing, inventing quotes and cherry-picking his information. He started his final e book, about love, with an acknowledgment of these previous sins. His 14-page part of notes for “Thriller” would appear to point that he has been diligent in his investigations and fact-checking.
