Body of missing boatman found floating in water near Camden

CAMDEN, NC (WAVY) – The body of a missing boatman was found Tuesday night on the Pasquotank River near Camden.

Camden County Sheriff Kevin Jones said he received a call around 5:19 p.m. about what appeared to be an unattended boat drifting off Bartlett’s Landing in Camden.

Two local fishermen took Jones out to a boat about 600-700 yards from shore, but no one was found on board. They then began searching the shoreline, and found the body about 6:30 p.m. from the boat.

The incident is still under investigation and the man’s identity was released on Wednesday. Jones shared that the man is 69 years old and from the City of Elizabeth.

He added that the man was not wearing a life jacket.
