A promise of a BioShock movie finally came true thanks Netflix. Previous attempts to make a movie inspired by the franchise have failed, but Netflix is ​​leading the way this time around and they’ll make a movie out of anything. So, we’re going to look at when the BioShock movie release date will be, what it’s going to be about, and other odds and ends.

BioShock Netflix Movie Release Date Rumors

As of writing, there is no official release date for the BioShock Netflix movie. According to The Hollywood ReporterVertigo Entertainment will be the studio behind it and it could be part of a cinematic universe.

Since no details other than its existence have been announced, we’d bet it’s still early in pre-production. That means we’ll probably be looking at the 2023-2024 release at the earliest.

We don’t have any details yet about the script, cast, crew, or how Netflix wants to adapt BioShock other than that it will be a series. However, with the participation of Vertigo Entertainment, we can assume that the story will exploit the horror elements of BioShock.

The statement that Netflix wants to establish a BioShock cinematic universe is the most confusing part of the announcement. There were many possibilities if they were planning to use Elizabeth’s dimensional teleportation. However, we don’t see the movie as a straight adaptation of any of the games.

The BioShock movie was originally supposed to be directed by Gore Verbinski and written by John Logan. In May 2009, Take-Two and Universal Studios teamed up to produce the film, but production fell through. As a result, in 2010, the series was cancelled, and no one could doubt that any scripts or concepts from that project would make it to Netflix’s production.
