Count Bill Belichick is a fan Josh Allen, in spite of New England Patriots The head coach faces him twice a year. As New England prepared to face the first of two AFC East encounters with the Buffalo Bills this week, Belichick couldn’t contain his praise for Allen and the way he’s become one of the quarterbacks. better in the tournament.
“His progress has been really impressive,” Belichick said on Wednesday. “Where three years ago, completion rates, passer ratings, decision making, production, it was gone. [up]. It has increased at a truly remarkable rate. It is remarkable how good he has become.
“Last year, this year, he built on that, that’s when he entered the league, but he’s really improved tremendously and has a lot of ability to command offense. They can hear a lot. They change things. They, obviously, trust him a lot. He handles them very well on the line. Everyone else is going to play a bad game, where they get a bad look or a flash game or something like that.
“He’s not fooled much by anything. Really, really impressive to see how he’s grown there.”
Allen’s improvement over the past few years has made him one of the best full-backs in the game NFL. He completed 66.8% of his passes in 3,071 yards with 25 touchdowns to 10 interceptions with a passer rating of 99.1. He also had 69 hits for 383 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 5.6 yards per take. While Allen’s numbers are slightly worse than last year in several categories, Allen is sixth in passes, 14th in completion rate, seventh in touchdown (6.1), 22nd in intercept rate (2.4), 12th in yards per attempt (7.5), and 11th in passerby ratings.
Belichick has seen a lot of quarterbacks improve over the years, but won’t commit to making Allen the best he’s ever seen in 47 years of NFL coaching. The Patriots head coach gave him the best compliment possible – on Belichick fashion.
“I don’t know,” Belichick said. “He’s pretty good.”
