Throughout a speech on Tuesday, President Joe Biden claimed that Tornadoes are not known as tornadoes. The president didn’t say what the brand new identify for tornadoes was.
“… They don’t name them that anymore,” Biden mentioned.

Biden was talking Tuesday on the injury executed by Hurricane Ida in New Jersey and New York when he said, “It’s all throughout the nation, you understand, the members of Congress know from their colleagues in Congress that uh, you understand, it appears like a twister, they don’t name ’em that anymore, that hit the crops and wetlands in the midst of the nation in Iowa and Nevada and I imply, it’s simply throughout the board. And uh, you understand um, as I mentioned, we’re on this collectively.”
Whereas it’s unclear what Biden was referring to, he might have been referencing the derecho that hit Iowa in August 2020.
A derecho “is a widespread, long-lived wind storm that’s related to a band of quickly transferring showers or thunderstorms,” based on the Nationwide Climate Service.
The Nationwide Climate Service reported a derecho in Iowa on Aug. 10, 2020 with winds reaching as much as 106 mph.
