The news of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s new scholarship comes after the couple confronted backlash for his or her About Love marketing campaign with Tiffany & Co. for carrying the long-lasting Tiffany Yellow Diamond and posing with a never-before-seen portray by Jean-Michael Basquiat.

As previously reported, buddies of the late artist weren’t glad concerning the advert and spoke out towards it. Alexis Adler, who lived with the artist stated,

“I’d seen the advert a few days in the past and I used to be horrified. The commercialization and commodification of Jean and his artwork at this level — it’s actually not what Jean was about.”

She continued,

“Sadly, the museums got here to Jean’s artwork late, so most of his artwork is in non-public arms and other people don’t get to see that artwork aside from the reveals. Why present it as a prop to an advert? Mortgage it out to a museum. In a time the place there have been only a few Black artists represented in Western museums, that was his purpose: to get to a museum.”

Following the news of the diamond, which has been labeled as ‘blood diamond’ as a result of its historical past, Beyoncé was reportedly ‘offended and disillusioned.’

Her mom, Tina Lawson,67, defended the singer saying,

“What number of of you socially aware activist personal diamonds ? I believed so ! Effectively guess what did you go to attempt to examine to see the place the diamond got here from? Most likely not ! So once you guys get engaged you gained’t have a diamond you gonna placed on a sterling silver band And also you higher take a look at the place it got here from and the origin of the place got here from and why you add it take a look at the requires the Leather-based that you just bizarre as a result of they made it got here from one other nation to ban and never purchase diamonds proper as a result of your righteous !!
