Bethesda Adds Free Games to Steam as Launcher Migration Begins Today

With Bethesda closing down Launcher, players can start porting their game library to steam from today. As part of this process, Bethesda has added some of its classic games to Steam, which all players can download for free regardless of whether or not they’ve owned them before.

Which Bethesda games are free on Steam?

Elder Scrolls Arena

Five classic games were added to Steam yesterday, April 26, including the following three free titles:

  • The Elder Scrolls: Arena
  • The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall
  • Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

As noticed by Kotaku, two other games – The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire – are available for the small price of $6. Of course, there are other Bethesda titles that are already available for free on Steam, including Quake Champions, Fallout Shelter, and The Elder Scrolls: Legends.

The launcher for PC games will be shutting down next month. Starting today, April 27, players will be able to transfer their library to Steam, including all games, game saves, and wallet coins associated with that account. Most of those games will automatically transfer their saves although some will have to manually transfer. Unfortunately, any savings from Wolfenstein: Youngblood are not transferable, although players will be able to transfer any in-game Gold to their Steam account.

On May 11, the launcher will stop working. Any player who has not completed the transfer can still do so after this date as the library will not be lost. Players can still access services such as game mods, in-game items such as skins, news and updates. Games that require a login will also continue to do so. You can find more information on the Bethesda-specific FAQ.

In other news, the animated film Super Mario Bros. was postponed to next year. Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto announced the delay but gave no reason for the move to spring 2023. Elsewhere, Xbox Series X consoles | The S became the best-selling console in the US throughout March in terms of dollar sales, although the Nintendo Switch beat it in unit sales.
