What is the best Bluetooth speaker?
There are many factors to consider when choosing the best Bluetooth speaker for you; Here are the most important things we considered while researching this list.
Bluetooth: We have chosen Bluetooth Speaker because the wireless standard is already widely adopted, so our picks will work with your phone, tablet or computer no matter who made it.
Battery: Most of the speakers we recommend are completely wireless, which means they run on battery power. Our minimum requirement is eight hours of paid music, but many of our recommendations last much longer.
Dimensions and weight: One of the benefits of using a wireless Bluetooth speaker is the option to take it with you. Only one of the wireless speakers in our guide weighs more than 3 pounds and is over 8 inches tall. The rest can easily slip into your pocket or even your pocket.
Reliability: The dust and water resistance of electronic devices is measured on an IP (Ingress Protection) scale. Our minimum requirement for this guide is an IPX4 rating, meaning the speaker is protected from dust particles larger than 1mm (millimeters) and splashes of water.
Pairing multiple speakers: A relatively new feature of Bluetooth speakers is the ability to pair two or more of them together to form a multi-room wireless audio system. All the Bluetooth speakers we’ve researched for this guide support this feature.
1. StormBox Micro . Tribe
PICK MAY BE THE BEST
Tribit is a name you may not have heard of before, but I tested the company’s StormBox Micro for a few weeks and liked what I heard.
The speaker supports Bluetooth 5.0, the second latest version of the more energy-efficient wireless standard. Tribit says the speaker has 8 hours of playback per charge, and that’s been my experience. The lower battery life is due to its relatively small size: the speaker is about 3.7 inches square, about 1.5 inches deep, and weighs just over half a pound. This is by far the smallest speaker in our guide and very portable.
Despite its size, the StormBox Micro still delivers top performance. It achieves an IP67 rating, which means it’s dustproof and can be kept underwater 3.3 feet deep for up to 30 minutes. More importantly, it sounds very good.
Tribits showcase the speaker’s bass, and they’re not wrong. The bass is surprisingly loud without overwhelming the mids and treble. I would say the speaker won’t produce as clear a sound as higher-end speakers (it’s not for audiophiles), but it’s great for casual listening. I was particularly impressed with how easy it was to pair two StormBox Micros together. Once connected, you can use the speakers as a stereo pair or two mono speakers playing the same song at the same time.
Finally, the StormBox Micro has a strap that you can use to attach it to your bike (as seen in the image above) or around the shower head for bathroom listening. If you’re looking for an ultraportable speaker with good sound, this is our recommendation.
2. JBL Charge 5
BEST SOUND QUALITY
JBL’s Charge 5 is the latest in the company’s much-loved series of mid-sized Bluetooth speakers.
Like its predecessor, the Charge 5 supports Bluetooth 5.1, the advanced version of the wireless standard. JBL says it has 20 hours of battery life per charge. The Charge 5 has a tubular shape, measuring 8.7 inches long, and about 3.7 inches wide and deep. This speaker has earned an IP67 durability rating, which means it’s completely dustproof and can be completely submerged under water up to 3.3 feet deep for up to 30 minutes.
I tested the previous version of this speaker and found the sound quality to be better than average, especially at high volumes. If you don’t like the way it sounds, you can adjust its EQ (equalization) settings inside the JBL Connect+ app. The same app lets you pair 100 JBL speakers together to create a massive wireless sound system. Another great feature brought over from the previous generation Charge speakers is the ability to pair two devices with the speaker at the same time. This allows multiple people to share DJ duties instead of one person.
If durability and connectivity are your top concerns, JBL’s Charge 5 is the best pick in our guide.
3. Urbanears Ralis
BEST OVERALL DESIGN
Urbanears’ Ralis is a stylish, portable Bluetooth speaker that balances size and sound without sacrificing both.
The Ralis supports Bluetooth 5.0, the latest major version of the wireless standard that includes increased range, better battery life and stronger connections than previous versions. This helps the Ralis achieve more than 20 hours of music playback on a single charge. The speaker also features fast charging that provides six hours of music if plugged in for 15 minutes.
One of the most distinctive features of the Ralis is the cube, which stands out from the round and rectangular Bluetooth speakers. At 10.5 inches tall and wide, it’s one of the largest speakers in our guide, but that allows it to deliver a louder, louder sound. We found the Ralis to have a bit of a heavy bass in our testing, but it’s really solid overall, especially at high volumes. The size of the Ralis doesn’t compromise its portability as it comes with a strap, making it easy to hold and carry. We also like the fact that the Ralis comes in blue, red, and gray colors, which really catch the eye.
Urbanears doesn’t give the Ralis an IP rating, but says it’s water resistant, so you can expect it to be able to handle some rain or splashes without breaking.
You can’t pair the speaker with another for stereo sound, but it allows you to pair two devices with it at the same time via Bluetooth, so you can share DJ duties with others. It also has an AUX input for wired audio sources and a USB-A port, which can charge your phone with just a pinch.
If you want a mid-size speaker that looks crisp and delivers big sound, then Urbanears’ Ralis is our pick.
4. Bang & Olufsen A1 2nd Generation
BEST MULTI-PURPOSE SPEAKER
Bang & Olufsen has a rich tradition in making some of the most beautiful and sounding speakers available anywhere, and the latest version of the A1 speaker carries on that legacy.
The speaker supports Bluetooth 5.1, the recently approved version of the wireless standard, and has up to 18 hours of battery life per charge. The speaker is disc-shaped, measuring 5.2 inches across and 1.8 inches tall and weighing 1.23 pounds. It achieves an IP67 rating, which means it’s completely dustproof and can be submerged in water up to 3.3 feet deep for up to 30 minutes.
The A1 (2nd Generation) is a 360-degree speaker, which means it uses a circular dome shape to disperse sound in multiple directions. There’s no such thing as “sweet spot” that you have to enter to hear the music clearly.
Despite its small size, this speaker features a 3.5-inch woofer and 0.6-inch tweeter to produce a more balanced sound. Bang and Olufsen say the speaker is “ideal for small social gatherings and mid-sized rooms around the house.” It may not shake the rafters, but this speaker is designed to take anywhere. Two A1 speakers can be connected to form a stereo pair.
Sound quality is the most important prerequisite for recommending a speaker, but the A1 2nd Gen can do much more than play music. It supports Amazon’s Alexa, and when configured properly, it can be controlled entirely with your voice. This includes adjusting the volume, playing music from streaming services like Spotify and Prime music, and controlling smart home accessories.
No speaker is perfect, but Bang & Olufsen’s A1 (2nd Generation) is a truly perfect choice if you want to carry around a smart Bluetooth speaker that’s small, sounds great, and has a nice design. everywhere you go.
5. Ultimate Ears HYPERBOOM
BEST FOR FEMALE PARTIES
The top Bluetooth speaker in our guide is Ultimate Ears’ HYPERBOOM, a giant wireless speaker with a lot of punch.
It supports Bluetooth 5.0, the second latest version of the more energy-efficient wireless standard, and has up to 24 hours of battery life per charge. That’s the best battery life of any Bluetooth speaker we recommend, but it comes at a cost: size. HYPERBOOM is 14.4 inches tall, 7.5 inches wide and deep, and weighs 16.6 pounds.
Yes, this is a portable speaker, but not one you’re likely to take with you out the door. That’s especially true considering its IPX4 durability rating, which means it’s dustproof to avoid damage from particles larger than 1mm (millimeters) and water resistant enough to handle splashes. splashing. Think of it this way: sand can get inside, but debris can’t; it will work if you spill a drink on it, but not if it gets wet in the rain.
In terms of sound, the HYPERBOOM is well equipped. It features multiple woofers, tweeters, and passive radiators, delivering a truly balanced sound. So the speaker supports a custom Ultimate Ears technology called “Adaptive EQ,” which means it actively optimizes how it sounds based on where it’s placed. If you carry your speakers indoors and outdoors, you’ll notice the difference. If you don’t like how adaptive EQ works, you can always adjust the levels manually.
The HYPERBOOM can be connected to other Ultimate Ears speakers to create a larger wireless sound system, but not as a stereo pair. Four devices can be connected to it at the same time, allowing you to share DJ tasks among more people.
If you regularly host large parties and want a speaker that uses AI to always sound the best, I highly recommend Ultimate Ears’ HYPERBOOM.
