Better call Saul is a show well known to a global audience. The premise and its characters are revered, some fans even prefer them to the show that started it all: breaking Bad. No one could have foreseen the desire and intrigue in a show about lawyers and lawyers being foretold on a show about a man with cancer who cooks up crystal meth and starts a drug empire.
As a spin-off about Saul Goodman, Better call Saul is a smart and exciting watch. The show leaves vicious enemies in favor of lawyers and attorneys Jimmy McGill has to cheat and cheat his way out of situations. Some of these lawyers are prominent in Better call Saulbut who is the best of them all?
8th Erin Brill
Erin Brill is first introduced as a freshman at Davis & Main. Erin Brill has a great career ahead of her with potential as long as she doesn’t take Jimmy McGill’s lessons to heart and pursue her professional path. What makes her the lowest-ranked attorney on the list is that she is only a freshman, with little to no experience in any case, let alone one as large as the Sandpiper Crossing case.
Erin has high respect and procedures for following proper legal process and conduct. She seems very hostile to Jimmy McGill, who often tries to cut corners to help himself. Erin was hired to “assist” Jimmy McGill, making her competent enough to babysit an older and more experienced attorney.
7 Bill Oakley
Bill Oakley’s career is no joke. He served as an assistant district attorney for twelve years and rose to fame for stopping Albuquerque coffee shop raids while serving in the General Crimes Unit.
After twelve successful years, Bill Oakley is a great attorney and largely unchallenged in his field. Where Bill Oakley falters is in his lack of pursuit of a better career. When Bill finds out about Jimmy McGill’s Davis & Main job, he is filled with jealousy and will never be able to pursue such a job himself.
6 Clifford Haupt
Clifford Main has great expertise in his field. As the founder and senior partner of his law firm, Davis & Main, Clifford and his law firm in Santa Fe, New Mexico are well respected. Clifford is a good guy and gives Jimmy McGill great opportunities at his company. He even provided him with a great bonus, an expensive desk, a company car, and a great office. However, Jimmy abuses his kindness and Clifford is forced to fire him.
Clifford is a great attorney and is fighting the Sandpiper Crossing case, which is said to be settling in the millions of dollars. Where Clifford falters is in his inability to trust Howard Hamlin, a close business partner, during Jimmy and Kim’s schemes. However, it does not offend Clifford’s intelligence and professionalism.
5 Richard Schweikart
As co-founder of the law firm Schweikart & Cokely, Richard Schweikart presents himself as a great professional and leading attorney for Sandpiper Crossing. Richard Schweikart has a wealth of experience and a talented law firm to bring the best out of a bad situation for his clients.
Richard Schweikart is a man of great respect and follows the rules. However, that doesn’t stop Richard Schweikart from wasting court time by trying to bury Jimmy and Chuck in paperwork to prevent the Sandpiper Crossing case from ever being settled. It just shows his efficiency as a lawyer.
4 Howard Hamlin
A corporate attorney based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Howard Hamlin is the owner and CEO of the major Albuquerque-based law firm Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill. As Managing Partner and Senior Partner, Howard helped sustain Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill as a highly successful law firm. Their offices were amazing and their business was booming.
Howard Hamlin was great at his job, and his professional courtesy extended outside of work. He was always punctual, polite and intelligent. Howard has been able to see through Jimmy McGill’s scams on many occasions.
3 Kim Wexler
When Kim Wexler graduated from Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill’s sponsored law school, she was inspired to continue her legal work at the law firm and become an associate. Her legal career as a lawyer was valued by her many clients and she devoted all her time to them.
Kim Wexler was praised as an efficient and highly qualified lawyer with great negotiating skills. However, her downfall was her utter love for Jimmy McGill and her corruption over how much fun she was having in a partnership with Slippin’ Jimmy about the law itself. However, Kim’s professionalism triumphed and she did what she had to do, despite the loss.
2 Chuck McGill
A co-founder and named partner of Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill, Chuck McGill is a brilliant attorney at a prestigious law firm. Chuck upholds the law to the highest degree, perhaps more so than anyone. Chuck has a great intellect and a brilliant attention to detail in the sharpest of things. Chuck will do the right thing no matter what as he sees it as the only path to success.
There may not be lawyers like Chuck. The man knows the law like the back of his hand, and his sophistication alone wins the courtroom. However, his electromagnetic hypersensitivity is his downfall, as is his dislike and hatred for his own younger brother, whom he cannot see as anything less than Slippin’ Jimmy.
1 Saul Gutman
Saul Goodman, formerly Jimmy McGill,’s decline into a “criminal” criminal defense attorney began in his youth. Saul Goodman’s name is a pun on the phrase “It’s all good man!” and if someone has Saul Goodman as their attorney then all is well. There’s nothing Saul can’t get his client out of. As long as they pay the fee, and not American Express.
What makes Saul Goodman such a brilliant lawyer is that he’s a con man who doesn’t care if he has to bend or even break the law to get his client released. Saul is above the law and his intelligence is one of the greatest. Saul was even able to trick his bright older brother in a lawsuit, and now Saul is unleashed in Albuquerque, New Mexico to represent criminals in the city’s criminal underworld.
Better call Saul airs Mondays at 9:00 p.m. EST on AMC.
