Benedict Cumberbatch Reveals How He’s Improved In Avengers: Infinity War

Benedict Cumberbatch has been busy for the past year and a half. Recently, the respected British actor discussed his role in several upcoming films such as the period drama Jane Campions. The power of the dog and of course, Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: There’s no way home.Regarding his MCU character, Doctor Strange, Cumberbatch revealed that he actually improvised one of the character’s most memorable lines in the series. Avengers: Infinity War.

2018 Avengers: Infinity War saw many of the MCU’s most beloved characters cross the road for the first time. The epic crossover event has seen characters like Thor sternly team up with Guardians of the Galaxy is ridiculous, as well as Bruce Banner meeting and making a fool of himself in front of the Wakandan people. Fans also got to witness a clash between the MCU’s biggest selves as Doctor Stephen Strange and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) were finally forced to meet.

Get in early Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange looking for Tony Stark after the person formerly suddenly introduced to Bruce Banner crashed through his ceiling. Immediately there was friction between Strange and Stark, which is not surprising considering how similar and arrogant they both are. This makes up for a lot of classic MCU jokes and jokes, including a moment when Stark asks Strange, “What exactly is your job, other than making animals out of hot air balloons? ” to which the Sorcerer Supreme replied, “It’s protecting your reality, douchebag.” Well, it turns out the cleverly timed “douchebag” was an early touch of Cumberbatch.

“I remember on set when I called him a tote bag, there was a kind of ripple effect. ‘Oh my God. Did you just call Iron Man a tote bag? ‘ They kept it, good for them. And then it got the same reaction in theaters,” Cumberbatch told The Hollywood Reporter. I’m just… I’m sick of being compared to Liberace or whatever else slams the guy across from me, so I tried to take him down. It’s fun to play with those. You find your feet. The more you do it, the more familiar it becomes.”

The rest of the interview mainly focuses on Cumberbatch’s villain role in the upcoming Netflix series NS dog power, which is sure to be a start for the usually friendly actors. Cumberbatch also discusses the sacrifices and dedication required to shoot the upcoming film Doctor Strange in Madness’ Multiverse, which was mainly filmed in London during the height of the Pandemic. “Everybody made such sacrifices,” Cumberbatch told THR. “Some of their kids are going to school, and they don’t necessarily sleep in the same house, or even in the same house. I’m really, really blown away by that.”

While Downey Jr is known for his improvisational approach to playing Stark, it’s great to see that other actors have that freedom in the MCU. In the interview, Cumberbatch said he was inspired to play around with the dialogue after watching Spider-Man Actor Tom Holland having fun on set with Downey Jr.
