BCE Inc. is asking the federal authorities to dam Quebecor Inc.’s buy of 5G spectrum in Western Canada, stating the corporate didn’t meet the necessities to bid on airwaves there.
Bell’s courtroom problem comes after an public sale of a key 5G spectrum by Innovation, Science and Financial Improvement Canada this summer season.
The corporate stated Videotron (a subsidiary of Quebecor), was capable of buy spectrum in Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia that was put aside for smaller carriers, permitting it to entry airwaves at a less expensive worth than Canada’s largest carriers.
Bell stated the set-aside spectrum for smaller carriers was solely eligible to corporations which have pre-existing operations within the jurisdiction, and argued Quebecor doesn’t have a presence in these provinces.
It’s asking the federal authorities to dam Quebecor’s buy and maintain the public sale once more.
Quebecor and Innovation, Science and Financial Improvement Canada didn’t instantly reply to requests for remark.
