Battlefield 2042 Video Details New content coming later this year

DICE teases what players can look forward to in the next few seasons of Battlefield 2042, including map updates and the return of a fan-favorite feature.
Battlefield 2042 has been gradually working to turn things around since its critically planned launch last year. Actions taken ranged from adding new content and fixing bugs to overhauling aspects of the game that were poorly received upon arrival. In its latest update, developer DICE unveiled some of the biggest changes and new content that players who have stayed loyal to the game can look forward to before the end of the year.
Perhaps the biggest of these changes is the one being made 2042‘s Specialist System. Acknowledging that replacing the series’ class system with individual Specialists was “polarizing,” DICE announced it will be bringing back classes and integrating Specialists into the classic roles of Assault, Support, Engineer, and Recon. This follows changes made to the Specialists’ designs earlier this month, and DICE said it will continue to tweak their designs and voicelines to better match the darker tone of 2042‘s world.
These changes to Specialists are planned to be introduced later this year in Season 3. Before that, though, Season 2 introduces another major new gameplay feature in the form of Vault Weapons. These are weapons that are currently exclusive Battlefield 2042‘s Portal mode, which will be available in regular multiplayer through a new unlock feature called Quests. Vault weapons will be added to the game over time alongside brand new weapons including the M16A3 assault rifle and the M60E4 LMG battlefield 3 to be the first.
Season 2 also gets an overhaul for two of the game’s older maps, Renewal and Orbital, after the Kaleidoscope map was updated a few weeks ago. DICE’s update video shows several parts of the maps being populated with updated terrain and lots of new cover. In addition, the was revised Battlefield 2042 Maps will feature new capture points as revamped spawn points, which should result in players getting back into combat faster. According to DICE, the revamped Renewal will arrive sometime in September, followed by Orbital in October.
While DICE isn’t ready to fully reveal Season 2’s new content just yet, the developer has announced the addition of a new map, new Specialist, new weapons, and new gameplay options for Portal. It was also hinted that players can expect a similar amount of content Battlefield 2042‘s future seasons. That might not be enough to lure back players who felt burned from the state the game was in for the first few months of its life, but it certainly looks like those still playing will have plenty Will have reasons to continue doing this over the next few months.
Battlefield 2042 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
