Massachusetts @ Ball State
Current record: Massachusetts 3-2; Ball state 1-3
What to know
The Ball State Cardinals will face off against the Massachusetts Minutemen at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday at the McArthur Center. UMass will move forward after a victory while the Cardinals will stumble upon a loss.
Friday’s Ball State vs Weber State Wildcats showdown wasn’t an outright showdown, but with Ball State falling 85-74, it’s close to becoming one. Guard Luke Bumbalough (14 points), center Payton Sparks (13 points) and forward Mickey Pearson Jr. (12 points) is the top scorer for Ball State.
In the meantime, things were nearing an end as UMass and UNCG Spartans clashed on Friday, but the Minutemen eventually overcame the opposition 93-90. UMass gets double-digit scores from four players: Guard Noah Fernandes (25), forward Trent Buttrick (18), guard Rich Kelly (14) and forward Dibaji Walker (twelfth). Kelly had some trouble finding her footing against Weber State on Thursday, so it’s a step in the right direction.
Ball State is currently 1-3 while UMass stands at 3-2. Some defensive stats to keep in mind while watching: Ball State allowed their opponents to shoot 46.60% off the floor on average, which is the 40th highest shot rate allowed in college basketball . The Minutemens had the hardest time of all: they allowed their opponents to shoot an average of 47.30% off the floor, which is the 30th highest shot rate allowed in college basketball. Good news? Teams may see more of their shots fall.
