‘Attica’ reminds us why we mythologize — and misunderstand — the infamous prison rebellion

Through the five-day siege, greater than 1,000 prisoners on the maximum-security facility a bit of over 30 miles east of Buffalo revolted by breaking free from their cells, gathering and tenting out in a courtyard, demanding higher residing situations, inviting the press to doc the protest and, most infamously, taking some three dozen guards as hostages (and leverage). One guard, William Quinn, died through the rebel as the results of his accidents. A number of dozen extra — inmates and correctional officers alike — can be killed by legislation enforcement within the retaking of the jail.
