‘Attack on Titan’ Voice Actor Admits They ‘Don’t Know The Full Story’

Voice of Attack on the giants The Jaeger brothers took to the main hall at Anime NYC today for a panel discussion about the show’s final season. Bryce Papenbrook, voice of Jaeger, joined Jason Liebrecht, voice of Zeke, joining Matt Acevedo to discuss their characters and the show. Papenbrook also voices Kirito in Sword Art Online.
One of the topics that arose in their conversation was how neither of the actors read the manga or the script before filming.
“I haven’t read our place in the anime in advance,” Papenbrook admitted while discussing the final season. “Me too,” added Liebrecht.
That means they’re playing the characters without fully understanding their motives. It makes the final part intriguing for each actor as they’re learning more about their characters. In a memorable scene in which Eren attacks his ally, Papenbrook says he really doesn’t know why Eren did what he did.
“I don’t know the whole story. I don’t know why Eren did this, I just know he was trying to hurt them in that moment. And I think by hurting them, I hurt everyone who watched the show. ”

But as the machines unfold before the show’s climactic conclusion, the actors themselves are struggling to keep up. Upon learning of Grisha’s plans for Eren and Zeke, Papenbrook shared that he wasn’t sure where things were going.
The funny thing is that I don’t fully understand. I don’t have a complete understanding of all of that. So I’m looking at parts and snippets of this, like that’s what makes it so interesting. I can’t wait to learn and learn all these new things and see how this plays out. ”
It is a common practice that voice actors record a script while reading it for the first time, which means that some reactions to major revelations are correct for the actors, who I consider myself a fan of the show and the story. Liebrecht shared what it feels like to record through “smash of mind after shot:”
For those of us who didn’t read first and enjoyed experiencing it in real time, have that honest and honest initial impulse. And hopefully the first one, the really genuine one, is the used one.
Accepted, you won’t be surprised to learn that Papenbrook and Liebrecht are looking forward to seeing and filming season 2 of the final season, which airs on Crunchyroll and Funimation in January. When asked what they were expecting, both said they shouldn’t guess.
“I never guess because I’m always wrong, but I know we’re going to have some action,” Papenbrook said. “What I do know is that any of my expectations will be fulfilled,” added Liebrecht. “If I guess, I am wrong, no wonder. That is the case pretty much 100% of the time. This program specializes in challenging your expectations. “
