At least nine people were injured — none critically — in a shooting outside a Cincinnati bar early Sunday, police said.
The shooting took place just after 1:30 a.m. outside Mr. Pitiful’s Bar in Ohio’s Over-the-Rhine area, a popular nightlife area. Most of the victims sustained wounds on their lower halves, Cincinnati Police Department Lt. Col. Mike John told reporters.
All nine people treated at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center have been discharged, hospital spokesman Heather Chura told The (Cincinnati) Enquirer.

A police officer fired a round at a suspect who was fleeing the scene, but it was unclear if that person was hit, which John described as “a little unusual”.
“What I can tell you is that the person he shot was actively shooting with a firearm at the time,” John said. The suspect fled the scene of the crime.

Police said a fight broke out between two groups and officers saw at least two participants brandish guns and shoot at each other, The Enquirer reported.

John said police used two “bangers” – a “percussion instrument” with a “very loud sound” – to disperse a crowd that had allegedly gathered around officers trying to help the wounded.
Another shooting in the neighboring Central Business District left two injured, but John said it’s unclear if the two shootings are related.
Mayor Aftab Pureval called the shooting “completely and utterly unacceptable”.
“The use of guns to resolve disputes cannot become a normal part of our culture,” Pureval said, praising officers for a quick response that “probably saved many more from injury and the loss of life.”
