AstraZeneca vaccine: Clues to ‘trigger’ rare blood clots studied by scientists

In a new study published Wednesday in the journal Science Advances, researchers, including some at Cardiff University and Arizona State University, say they have found that a protein in the blood, “platelet factor 4”, can bind to the main component of the AstraZeneca vaccine, potentially causing a reaction, with antibodies that attack the protein. However, the question remains whether the binding is a direct cause of the blood clot.
