Mobile developers often launch their products to test the app usage and spending habits of players. In particular, the aforementioned New Zealand and Australia are popular test markets because of their small size and common language use with the US and UK. This is different from beta, as games usually end when developers commit to running tests. It means Apex Legends Mobile could very well be on the right track for a global release later in 2022.

Apex Legends Mobile is being developed internally by Respawn Entertainment. However, the studio is receiving support from Chinese company Tencent. Apex Legends Director Chad Grenier later explained that it was a collaborative effort between the core development team and a group of mobile app developers made specifically for the project. Hopefully, this means Apex Legends survive the move to mobile without serious problems.

Mobile version of Apex Legends will be free to play with paid cosmetics, just like the console and PC versions. Previously, Respawn repeated its commitment to avoiding pay-to-win monetization and confirmed that the rule extends to Apex Legends Mobile also. However, the mobile version will have separate Battle Passes that include collectibles and unlockables not available on other platforms.

Respawn has also previously confirmed that Apex Legends Mobile there will be no crossplay with the PC or console versions of Apex Legends. While it will certainly be disappointing to some, the decision is not entirely a surprise. Most mobile portals do not offer cross-play functionality, with a few notable exceptions like other battle royale Fortnite. Respawn Entertainment explained the decision by saying, “Apex Legends Mobile specially designed for touchscreens, with streamlined controls and thoughtfully optimized to lead to the most advanced battle royale combat available on phones. ”

Either way, the upcoming soft release is great news for Apex Legends mobile fans in the relevant countries. Hopefully that means the global launch of iOS and Android is near.
