Anthony Daniels teases return of C-3PO
C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels posted a photo on his Instagram showing the upcoming arrival of the droid, but what will the project be?
There are only a few constants in life: death, taxes, and some new constants Star Wars projects in production at any given time. Given the sheer pervasiveness that franchises have achieved throughout the entertainment industry as well as countless others, it’s almost hard to imagine things going back to the way they were, with a few years or so. even decades between new years. Star Wars Possesty.
In one Christopher Nolan-esque revolves around everythingthere are even constants in that constant of Star Wars domination. One of such key points is the presence of Anthony Daniels as the droid-relative droid protocol C-3PO, a character he has portrayed regularly since the series began in 1977. So it should come as no surprise to see Daniels fit and ready to act again. But instead of the shiny gold exterior fans have increasingly come to expect from 3PO, this new outfit is rather more stretchy and, ironically, quite a bit more high-tech.
The veteran actor recently posted an image on his Instagram account that seems to suggest some new C-3PO content in the not too distant future. With himself in a motion capture suit and sporting a pose reminiscent of a vaudeville show, Daniels made sure to clear up any confusion with multiple hashtags confirming the popular droid character’s involvement his and Star Wars series. “Finally,” he posted with the caption, “a new suit – fit!” This could be related to problems he’s had in the past with fitting the full C-3PO outfit.
Speculation would suggest that this particular mocap session is related to special focus on upcoming droid on Disney+ titled Star Wars: A Droid Story. In particular, announced in 2020, will be a new character-focused animation feature directed by C-3PO and his partner, R2-D2. This would work well for motion capture equipment, as no one needs a full metal suit when it comes to voice recording, at least unless they’re really dedicated to methodical acting.
This isn’t the first time Daniels has voiced the animated version of C-3PO, as he’s been doing such things periodically since. Star Wars Holiday Special is notorious and often teased back in 1978. The British stage actor turned sci-fi icon has voiced the character in dozens of video games and cartoons over the years, including several Lego star wars projects and even animated series Clone Wars. So, another notch on that belt must have been no big deal for a seasoned pro like him.
Still no news about when Star Wars: A Droid Story will eventually release, but this teaser by Daniels should indicate that production is largely on track. However, what special turned out to be is, it’s heartwarming to see everyone’s favorite ish-protocol droid back and ready to panic again.
