Shenmue The anime is finally nearing an official release, and here’s everything you need to know about the show’s release schedule.
Produced by Crunchyroll and Adult Swim, Shenmue is an upcoming Japanese anime series. For those who don’t know, the anime is based on a series of video games by Sega. Yu Suzuki has released three parts of the amazing thing Shenmue franchise, the newest one is Shenmue III Released in 2019 for Windows and PS4.
Video games have been well received in the community for their brawl fighting style. So it’s no wonder that many fans were surprised after learning that an anime adaptation of Shenmue coming soon.

Shenmue release date and time confirmed
Crunchyroll has officially confirmed that Shenmue will be released on Saturday, February 5, 2022 or Sunday, February 6, 2022depending on your region.
According to Crunchyroll’s official postrelease time for Shenmue will 9:30pm Pacific Time (Pacific Time). But of course, it will be a simulcast release, so timing will vary depending on your location. So here are the exact release times for different regions:
- Pacific Time: 9:30pm PST on February 5
- Show Center: 11:30pm CST on February 5
- Western time: 12:30 a.m. EST on February 6
- UK time: 5:30 AM GMT February 6
- European time: 6:30 a.m. CET on February 6
- India time: 11:00am IST on February 6
- Australian time: 4:00 p.m. ACDT on February 6
Shenmue anime plot
The plot for Shenmue pretty simple. The anime will follow the journey of Ryo, who witnesses the murder of his father. In his quest for revenge, Ryo trains in martial arts and hunts down his father’s killer.
Ryo fights against several influential people on his long journey and discovers that Lan Di killed his father because of the mysterious Dragon Mirror.
Here’s How You Can Watch Shenmue
Besides Crunchyroll, Swimming for Adults will also broadcast Shenmue on its foundation. Crunchyroll has confirmed that they will air a spin-off of the anime, while Adult Swim will have a voiceover version.
Both platforms offer a 14-day free trial, so new subscribers have the option to start watching anime without paying anything for 14 days. You can then opt for a paid subscription if you want to watch the episodes as soon as they air in Japan.
Shenmue anime episode number
It’s official that Shenmue will include a total of 13 episodes. The first episode, titled “Thunderclaps”, will release on February 5, and after that, the series will follow a weekly release schedule.
