NS Mubadala Tennis World Championship 2021 will kick off December 16 and will feature some of the top players throughout the three-day tournament. It is an annual tournament held in Abu Dhabi every year with the first edition being held in 2011. Rafael Nadal was the 5-time champion and most successful player at the event and will also be this year’s defending champion.

Nadal won the final in 2019 with Stefanos Tsitsipas won his 5th title and got ahead Novak Djokovic who won his 4th title in 2018 and matched the spanish tally. The 2020 edition has been canceled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and the action returns this year with the only women’s match also being played this year between the teen sensations Emma Raducanu and Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Belinda Bencic.

In men’s content, in addition to Nadal, won 2 times Andy Murray, also the youngest champion ever to win at the tournament, Dominic Thiem, Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud and Denis Shapovalov will compete for the title this year. Ruud will face Shapovalov while Thiem will play Murray on the 16th.

On the 17th, the winner between Ruud and Denis will face Rublev while Nadal will play the winners of Thiem and Murray in the semi-finals of the 3-day tournament.

If Murray can beat Thiem, who will be back since he injured his wrist while playing at Mallorca Championship 2021, the clash between Andy and Rafa will be the 25th meeting between two former world No 1s who last met in the semi-finals of 2016 Madrid Masters where Murray won in consecutive sets to have a head-to-head record with a score of 17-7 in favor of Nadal.

For Thiem, Murray last played against the Austrians in the quarterfinals of China Open 2019 where Thiem won consecutive sets to level the score 2-2.
