Spider-Man fans who dared to hope for more No Way Home guests now have one more reason to dream thanks to a comment from Andrew Garfield.
Leads to the much-anticipated release Spider-Man: There’s no way home had fans grasping every little bit of information they could find, and it looks like the latest effort has involved an actual ex-Spider-Man himself. Although, depending on how the interaction is interpreted, maybe “before” is no longer the most accurate descriptor to use. Who is ready to be recklessly optimistic?
Many die-hard Marvel fans out there may remember a potentially leaked video that seems to show Ultimate Spiderman star Andrew Garfield matches again as his web-slinger version. The internet quickly buzzed with excitement, especially since rumors had been promoted that Garfield would be joining Tobey Maguire to take on their respective Spider-Man roles for the upcoming Tom Holland. Spider-Man: There’s no way home. But Garfield was quick to deny the rumors, blowing hopes up for many eager to see his underrated character again.
Well, now it looks like he’s been cast as the shy guy of all things, and the train is likely to be back in action. While signing autographs at the world premiere of his latest movie Clap, clack… Boom!, Garfield ran into a fan who was contemplating seeing him in There is no way home. “I hope you’re in Spiderman movie,” said the off-camera fan, prompting Garfield to turn around and say “we’ll see, man” as he passed.
In essence, this seems like a simple way of giving up on the idea without committing in any way. After all, actors did such things to avoid creating rumors. But this happened after Garfield denied it The idea appeared in Spiderman: There is no way home several times, even to the point that a VFX studio came to refute his claim that the aforementioned leaked video was a “Photoshop”. So while his answer here could easily just be his attempt to find a safe answer, there are other possibilities as well.
Perhaps Garfield simply got tired of rejecting the idea over and over again. Sure, when Marvel and Disney want someone to keep a secret, they’re doomed to the fact that it’s going to be kept secret. But then again, Alfred Molina just released and said he would return as Doc Ock, calling his return “the worst kept secret in Hollywood!” So it’s entirely possible that Garfield, like Molina, no longer feels the need to keep that delicate wool in front of his fans.
So keep that optimism up, but maybe moderate it a bit. Spider-Man: There’s no way home pretty close to release now, so the time for secrets is almost over. However, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of mystery here and there. Good, Spider-Man: Far From Home could have proven there could be a little bit of a fallacy with so many mysteries. But that was then and this is now.
Spider-Man: There’s no way home will hit theaters on December 17, 2021.
Marvel Studios and Sony are aiming to make Spider-Man: No Way Home the first MCU movie of Phase 4 to secure a release date in China.
