As one of the most beloved family movies ever made, it’s fair to say that no one is crying for a sequel. Mary Poppins, especially one that came out 54 years after the original and doesn’t really offer much to talk about in terms of originality or creativity.
That’s not to say Mary Poppins is back is a bad movie; Far from it, in reality. Disney regular Rob Marshall shot an entertaining montage that scored 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, earned nearly $350 million at the box office, earned four Academy Award nominations and four Golden Globe nominations including Movie Best Actor, Best Actor and Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.
According to those metrics, Mary Poppins is back It’s a huge success story, but it’s not a movie where you hear people talk about all that often. It takes a huge chunk of rock or a huge amount of self-belief to step into Julie Andrews’ legendary shoes, but Emily Blunt is more than capable of following such tough footsteps.
