I found out I had Celiac disease quite late in life. While this probably isn’t good for my gut, it’s much worse for my taste buds, which are already used to what good food really tastes like when it’s filled with gluten. As a result, the transition to gluten-free snacks was a bit more difficult than I initially imagined. As it turns out, these gluten-free snack companies are basically relying on the fact that you no longer remember how delicious the food is, so they assume anything with a crunch is enough. But not me! I miss every bite, and gluten-free or not, taste is equally important to me.
All of this means that, after months of trial and error, I’ve finally found some gluten-free snacks that are not only edible, but actually delicious. good (and I mean they taste as good as gluten-free snacks.) Some of these snacks will be pleasant surprises by being naturally gluten-free while others are great imitations of those gluten-free. food that I used to enjoy. Either way, they helped save my stomach and my delicious morsels in one fell swoop. Scroll through below to see the best gluten-free snacks to stock up on in your pantry.
Starting with a trusted classic, Cheetos have been proven to be gluten-free without any alterations to the original recipe. This has become one of the biggest lifesaver snacks on the market today with its unearthly cheese flavor and its classic crunchy texture. It can be hard to live in a gluten-free world, but it’s a lot harder to live in a world where you can’t lick the orange dust off your fingers like a wild animal after a hunt.
Unlike Cheetos, Gluten-Free Oreos feature some slight changes to the classic cookie recipe. However, I simply cannot stress to you how much they taste like the original taste. I really wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between an original Oreo and a gluten-free one, which is simply the highest mark of praise I can give any gluten-free snack. The cookies also feature the iconic Double-Stuf look, which means you can lick all of the filling without feeling embarrassed.
Snyder’s of Hanover All Natural Gluten Free Pretzels
I’ll be honest with you now, these things aren’t perfect. Snyder’s of Hanover Gluten-Free Pretzel Sticks definitely has a slightly different taste and texture than those full of gluten. That being said, these are still pretty good. The cookie sticks still have a good crunch, honestly to them, covered in rock salt and work well when dipped in humus water. I don’t know how much more you can ask for a cookie. Snyder’s of Hanover also has a classic mini cookie option as well as a larger cookie bar option for those with really bold beliefs.
Tate’s Bake Shop Cookies Ginger Zinger Gluten Free
Tate’s Bake Shop is basically royalty for the crackers community. Nearly all of their cookies at one point or another got into my mouth and I can’t say I regret a single one. The company currently has three different gluten-free cookies, though without a doubt the best of the three is Tate’s Bake Shop Gluten Free Ginger Zinger Cookies. This ginger snap-style cookie has pieces of ginger that are really transparent and really make a great cookie even if it’s gluten-free. The chocolate and coconut crackers are also worth a try if you don’t want to eat ginger.
Popcorners Snacks Gluten Free Chips
Popcorners have been a reliable substitute for some of the chips or crackers that are no longer on the table if you don’t eat gluten. What makes french fries really worth it is how hard the company goes to create the taste. Popcorners chip has some unique flavors that actually taste pretty unbelievable. I mean, when it comes to flavored chips, it really makes sense to put Popcorners in the conversation for the best overall taste. My personal favorites are Kettle Corn and Sweet Chili.
KIND Peanut Butter Barrs
So many breakfast bars have gluten in them which can be especially hard to eat if you’re trying to grab something quick as you walk out the door. Luckily, KIND Peanut Butter Breakfast Shop is your answer. There’s nothing special about them, but that’s the point. They taste and feel exactly like any other morning snack, which has helped me normalize my more restricted daily eating habits. The breakfast bar also has some other flavors if you are not a big fan of peanut butter.
Simple Mills Almond Flour Crackers
One of the hardest losses after going gluten-free is crackers. Nearly every gluten-free cracker I’ve tried since then has a sun-dried consistency and flavor. The only notable exception is Simple Mills Almond Flour Crackers. These crackers are the closest I’ve ever tasted to traditional wheat crackers. Fine Ground Salt is probably the best of the bunch, but if you want something more flavorful, the company has several other options.
Zapp’s New Orleans Kettle-Style Voodoo Flavor Potato Chips
One of the best things about being gluten-free is that there are still a large number of high-quality chips that you can eat without fear. With so much more flexibility in this area, it becomes easier to simply choose a product you like rather than just a viable alternative to a product you already like. Zapp’s New Orleans Kettle-Style Voodoo Flavor Potato Chips are really just my favorite french fries. They have a sweet yet spicy taste and a wonderfully crunchy feel that even some of the biggest names in the potato chips industry can’t match. If you haven’t tried them yet, here’s your sign to do so.
The Good Crisp Company Gluten Free Fries
For the Pringles lovers among us, you’ll be disappointed to learn that the original stacked crisps isn’t in fact gluten-free. You won’t have to skip them, though, as The Good Crisp Company’s Gluten-Free Fries serve as a close substitute to Pringles. Good Crisp Company also offers a variety of classic flavors including Sour Cream & Onion as well as Outback BBQ and Aged White Cheddar. Plus, it’s always fun to get your chips out of those tall skinny boxes.
Dark Chocolate Naked Bear & Sea Salt Granola Bites
One of my favorite snacks for basically any time of day, Bear Naked Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt Granola Bites can be used as a breakfast option, a mid-day snack. or even for late-night meals without a second thought. Granola bites are absolutely delicious and really not bad for you, so don’t feel too bad if you finish your bag. Bear Naked has several bite-sized granola flavors worth trying, but there’s something about the dark chocolate and sea salt that’s so satisfying.
