The Worldwide Brotherhood of Teamsters, by means of an area chapter, late Monday filed for a vote on union illustration with the Alberta Labor Relations Board at an Amazon warehouse in Nisku, Alberta, referred to as YEG1. In April, employees at Amazon’s Bessemer, Alabama, warehouse voted overwhelmingly in opposition to unionization, with fewer than 30% of the votes tallied in favor of becoming a member of the Retail, Wholesale and Division Retailer Union. Even after the loss in Alabama, labor unions have continued efforts to arrange Amazon employees. The Teamsters in June approved a decision to fund and provide assets to Amazon employees hoping to unionize.
Teamsters Native Union 362 says YEG1 employees have raised issues round discrimination and wages.
