Amazon announces ‘The Boys’ animated anthology series

Boys

Netflix has clearly set a precedent for how a streaming service builds and expands on its most popular franchises; with Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead and The Witcher the spinoff, prequel, and animated companion, all forming an overarching multimedia universe.

Amazon seems to have listened, after announcing that the superhero series is a hit Boys is having an animated anthology series to supplement the upcoming third season of the main show and prequel in development will premiere at a Vought-sponsored show college for Supes.

Follow Deadline, Guys: Metabolism has ordered eight episodes and will premiere at some point in 2022, telling untold stories from the irreverent, grotesque, and colorful world of violence. There are some big names attached, with stories coming from Awkwafina, Garth Ennis, Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, Simon Racioppa, Justin Roiland and Ben Bayouth, Andy Samberg and Aisha Tyler.

Based on the attached talent and limitless potential that comes with the field of animation, not even mentioning Rogen and Goldberg’s participation in Amazon’s other 2D and R-rated superhero success Invincible, Guys: Metabolism is shaping up to be a more worthy addition to Eric Kripke’s brainchild’s rapidly expanding universe, which should be seen as the platform’s number one in-house episode effort.
