Appropriately enough, considering the relevance of the term to the franchise, Pokemon has grown significantly over the years. In the early days of the series, also known as “Pokemania” in the late 90s and early 2000s, gameplay, anime, and marketing promoted the “catch all” idea. They will rarely fail to specify that there are 150 Pokemon to catch. Of course, in 1999, most Western countries Pokemon fans know that there are at least 156 creatures, due to Mew’s existence and the early arrival of Togepi, Ho-Oh, Snubbull, Donphan, and Marill.

Pokemon Generation 4: The Beginning

pokemon sinnoh starter

Pokemon Begins Generation 4 At first it seems very familiar. If one considers Delibird to be a penguin-inspired Pokemon, all of the Starters in this generation are a re-read of the concept. Even if Piplup is officially the first Pokemon based on a penguin, the ideas of turtle and monkey Pokemon have been explored a few times before. However, these Starters spiced things up.

The Sinnoh Triad is the only type where some of its members are against each other in some way, thanks to the secondary types. Torterra is the part of the Ground that helps it resist both Infernape and Empoleon, while Infernape is the part of the Battle that helps it against Empoleon. Unfortunately, while Empoleon is part of the Steel that doesn’t give it a type advantage, it’s at least the first Water/Steel in the series.

  • Turtwig, Grotle and Torterra.
  • Chimchar, Monferno and Infernape.
  • Piplup, Prinplup and Empoleon.
