Alienware introduces the world’s first ultra-wide quantum dot OLED display

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect contrast of OLED technology to find its way into a niche gaming monitor, Alienware has the monitor for you.
It’s the world’s first quantum dot OLED display and it’s a monster. The AW3423DW will become a hugely popular display when it launches later this year, thanks to the combination of OLED technology and quantum dot pixel layer. The addition of a quantum dot layer will allow for wider color coverage and higher brightness than OLED-only panels, with the latter addressing one of OLED’s few flaws.
That increased brightness means that the AW3423DW will support DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400 certification and the DisplayHDR 1000 standard, which means the panel can support up to 1000 nits of brightness for HDR content.

The display – which is actually using Samsung’s OLED panels, not LG Display, which is why it has a quantum dot layer in the first place – supports a maximum refresh rate of 175Hz over DisplayPort or 100Hz over HDMI. It has a native resolution of 3440×1440, making it well-suited for productivity and role-playing games.
