ALGS LAN canceled again under threat of Omicron

Conclusion for the first part of Apex Legends The Global Series, originally scheduled for an offline tournament, is moving online due to the new COVID-19 virus variant.

In statement posted on Twitter Thursday night, Respawn canceled an impending $1,000,000 LAN Apex Legends tournament, extinguishing the hopes of many that esports could return to live competition as early as 2022.

“Today, we made the difficult decision to move the ALGS Split 1 knockout round to an online regional format. We sincerely apologize for the late nature of this news,” part of the statement.

Last Apex Legends esports enjoy the $500,000 Preseason Invitational 2019 live competition in Krakow, Poland. The coronavirus pandemic has devastated the first year of playing ALGS, making all tournaments online and eliminating international competitions.
