Alexei Navalny: Russia pursuing new criminal case against jailed Putin critic – National

Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a brand new felony case in opposition to jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny and his allies, the committee mentioned in an announcement on Tuesday.


The committee mentioned it was investigating Navalny on suspicion of establishing an “extremist group” collectively along with his associates. A Russian court docket has already outlawed Navalny’s anti-corruption basis as extremist and he himself is in jail for parole violations.

Navalny, 45, is extensively considered Russian President Vladimir Putin’s hottest opponent in Russia.

Navalny was flown to Germany for medical remedy after being poisoned in Siberia in August 2020 with what Western specialists concluded was the navy nerve agent Novichok.

Moscow has rejected their findings – which prompted a recent wave of sanctions in opposition to Russia – and accused the West of a smear marketing campaign in opposition to it.
