Alex Johnston hamstring injury, Rabbitohs, Javid Bowen ACL, Cowboys, injury, return date

South Sydney have faced a major blow with scorer Alex Johnston set to miss up to a month of legs.

Johnston left the field with a hamstring injury after scoring the second of the Bunnies’ win over the Bulldogs last Sunday.

The club’s head of high performance, Jarrod Wade, has confirmed Johnston is considering two to four weeks on the sidelines.

“AJ pulled up a bit tight and painful as we expected. We know it’s a hamstring injury, we think it’s a minor injury.

“AJ has a history of hamstring problems that originated four or five years ago. He knew what he was facing, so he knew how serious he was and how he felt at the time.

“We expect it to be in about two to four weeks but he will be taken for a check-up.”

Also for the Rabbitohs, Liam Knight, Campbell Graham and Jacob Host also suffered headshots in the same game. The host has passed his HIA and should be fine for Round 19, however Knight and Campbell need to go through protocols this week to be cleared to play.

Javid Bowen has received some devastating news with confirmation ACLs and MCLs are broken.

The 28-year-old was brought on in the second half of the team’s loss to the Roosters last Saturday with what is feared to be a season-ending knee injury.

The Cowboys confirmed on Monday that Bowen’s season is over, he will undergo surgery in the coming weeks and is considering a nine-month rehabilitation.

It was an unfortunate end to the season for Bowen, who joined the Cowboys on a training and trial deal before being elevated to the top 30 after impressing coach Todd Payten.
