No. 2 Alabama could hold the SEC West with a win in one of the next two games and take the lead from 21st place. Arkansas Saturday will relieve a lot of pressure compared to the first quarter of the year starting Bryce Young before the Iron Bowl and Auburn. However, can the Crimson Tide do that? We’ll find out when they face the Razorbacks in the SEC on CBS Game of the Week.
The Razorbacks are one of the nice surprises of the 2021 season. Coach Sam Pittman has developed an old, hard-working program that, even if they don’t beat their opponents, will simply hit defeat them with their physicality. Arkansas will be looking to use that physicality to keep Alabama’s SEC West celebrations on ice for at least another week.
What should you expect on a Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa? Let’s split the match and choose directly and against the spread.
Alabama vs. Arkansas: Need to know
Start the game on the ground: The Crimson Tide ran a total of 6 yards with LSU two weeks ago in its most recent SEC game. That has been a trend this season. They ranked 10th in the SEC for dash yards per attempt at 4.33 and 12th in allowable loss deals with 66. That seems crazy considering the Crimson Tide’s physicality is a card. their call under coach Nick Saban. Simply put, time is running out. Alabama has to figure out how to move the football across the ground consistently if they are to play Georgia in the SEC Championship Game in two weeks.
A unique challenge: There aren’t many ways to emulate what the Arkansas quarterback is like KJ Jefferson bring to the table. Offensive coordinator Kendal Briles uses the 6-foot-3, 240-pound monster as a power-up machine between balls and complements the star running back Trelon Smith. As soon as the teams figured out how to block that element of the Razorbacks defense, Jefferson popped a man overhead to stud wide the receiver. Treylon Burks. Crimson Tide support staff maintain eye discipline better, especially when Briles ramps up speed. They haven’t seen anything like this all year, which makes it a scary game for coaches Saban and Co.
Heisman Focus: Alabama QB Young is the favorite at the Heisman Trophy with +180, according to Caesars Sportsbook, and the spotlight provided by the SEC on CBS Game of the Week will allow voters to get a closer look at the sophomore signal caller. There aren’t many real contenders for Heisman, usually given to one of the top offensively skilled players of one of the best teams. Aside from Ohio State and Michigan State quarterback CJ Stroud supporting Kenneth Walker III, who else fits the bill? Not many players. Saban doesn’t really care about individual accolades beyond the perks they offer on the recruiting trail, but Young will likely have to put on a Heisman-caliber performance if the Crimson Tide is to take hold.

The Arkansas offensive will have enough success against Alabama to at least leave this game unquestioned heading into the fourth quarter. Will Jefferson and the rest of the offenders get the job done? Are not. A late mistake or two will cost the Hogs this time, but they should hold it within three touchdowns. Prediction: Arkansas (+20.5)
