Alabama University Alpha Phi Sorority is in chaos over leaked racist content

A sorority at the University of Alabama has expelled its chapter president from her posts and promoted another member after their racist text messages were leaked on social media.

Vile texts were sent out when members of the feminist organization Alpha Phi ventured to a bar in Tuscaloosa last week — and some began complaining about the location, according to the University of Alabama’s Crimson white newspapers.

“I would be startled, it smells really bad in here,” then-president Katherine Anthony wrote in the text stream.

Kylie Klueger, another sorority member at the bar, allegedly blamed the smell on “cigars, weed and black girls”.

After private messages leaked on Instagram, Crimson white reported that Anthony had been ousted from the presidency and Klueger was expelled from the sorority on December 9.

That same day, the chapter of the University of Alabama Alpha Phi posted about this on his Instagram page, which has more than 24,000 followers.

“Alpha Phi’s Beta Mu chapter was informed of a group text message in which a member used racist and hateful language,” the post read. “We immediately started the judicial panel process of our chapter. The person who sent the text message is no longer a member of our organization and others in the messaging group will be held liable based on the conclusion of our judicial panel process. ”

The post added that the chapter does not tolerate racism and that members “deeply apologize for the racist behavior of the former member and the harm and trauma this message has caused.” to members of the Alabama community and the general public.

“As Alpha Phis, we want to celebrate diversity and do our part to make Alabama more inclusive,” it said. “Unfortunately, the recent actions of those affiliated with our organization do not conform to the standards we have regarding our members.”

Since Anthony lost the presidency, Marissa Collett has been named the chapter’s new leader.

Early in the school year, the Greek community in Alabama faced backlash for its lack of diversity during the rush.
