Air Canada, Pearson Again Ranked #1 for Global Delays; Check-in in Montreal freezes

Air Canada and Toronto’s Pearson Airport again occupied the top spots for flight delays on Tuesday, marking at least four straight days when the country’s largest airline ranked No. 1 of all major airlines worldwide.

Air Canada saw 65 percent of its flights arrive late, while Jazz Aviation, which provides regional services for the Montreal-based airline, and Air Canada Rouge came in second and third, respectively, according to tracking service FlightAware.

Only one other airline, Virgin Australia, landed more than half of its planes later than scheduled.

Meanwhile, Pearson, Air Canada’s main hub, was the only airport in the world where more than half of its departures were delayed.

Montreal ranked tenth after a computer system failure related to forced manual baggage handling at baggage check, the airport authority told Trudeau in an email, noting that other factors were at play and domestic flights were hardest hit.

Airlines and airports are grappling with the massive travel revival as staffing issues at airlines and federal agencies lead to flight cancellations, baggage delays and endless queues.
