Mckenna Grace, 15-year-old star of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which hits theaters on Friday, features a new single associated with the film.
A track called “Haunted House” was released on Thursday, along with a music video. Grace co-directed the video with Danny Corey, and it was shot at a supposedly haunted house in Southern California over Halloween weekend, ET report.
Clearly continuing the legacy of Will Smith, who was known in the 90s and early 2000s for releasing music for the films in which he starred, the song is clearly a theme related to movie and even appeared in the ending credits.
However, the original song was not recorded in the mind of the film. Only when director Jason Reitman heard about it did he specifically ask to use it for the film’s ending credits.
It wasn’t a bad start to the Emmy-nominated actress’ musical career, as it was the first tune she released after signing with Photo Finish Records last year.
Mckenna reflected that the song was the product of a “tough time” she went through in her personal life.
“Through the pandemic, I was going through a tough time in my personal life and I wanted to write a song about how even when someone is no longer in your life, their memory will never really leave you… You can think of it as a breakup song, but it can also be about a friend or a family member or any kind of relationship that has ended ,” Mckenna said in a statement.
The song was co-written by Lily Kincade, you can listen to it right here.
Although the important reception of Ghostbusters: Afterlife was Mix, which earned 62% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is surprisingly lower than the 2016 reboot, fan reaction to the film has been significantly more positive, garnering a 96% audience score, counting to press time. The year 2016 mentioned above Ghostbusters has an audience score of only 49%.
