Abortion funds in DC, Maryland and Virginia get a boost from pilot program as questions worry about Roe

Isabel Blalock, the former NARAL director who helped found the Maryland program, will soon be transferring to the Baltimore Abortion Foundation, which has helped more than 100 patients. But because requests can come in at the last minute, Blalock and another leader of the show have taken on many of the tasks themselves. In Maryland, where black and Latino poverty rates are double of white residents, it is also a challenge to recruit volunteers that reflect the background of the patient, Blalock said.
