Aaliyah’s uncle is not disappointed Normani allegedly sampled her, believes she will be supported

Normandy“Wild Side” has delighted and amazed fans with its homage to Aaliyah … and the late singer’s uncle said she would be absolutely amazing with it too.

If you missed it, Normani released her first new song in a few years, and along with the introduction Cardi … many music lovers believe it contains a sample of Aaliyah’s “One in a Million”.

That raised some eyebrows, because Aaliyah’s music is rarely sampled and isn’t even available on streaming services, but according to a very close member of her family.. . all is good.

Barry Hankerson – Aaliyah’s uncle and her portfolio manager – told TMZ … his granddaughter “always encourages young women to pursue careers in music and entertainment to achieve their dreams.”

Hankerson is the founder of Blackground Records and says he owns all of Aaliyah’s masters, and he says it’s clear Normani was inspired by her music. He added… “I believe Aaliyah would be very supportive of a young black woman who chose to emulate her music and style.”

Barry added that it would be “more honored” if the singer sought approval to sing the “One in a Million” sample first, but in the end, he appeared to give his seal of approval.

He said… “I won’t stand in the way of something that sheds light on Aaliyah’s incredible existential power. So in that light, good wishes to Normani with song and career in general. God bless you. I think Aaliyah will be satisfied.”

An attorney for Blackground confirmed to us that the Aaliyah pattern was never officially authorized for use, HOWEVER… Normani’s team asserted that “Wild Side” did not actually use the live sample.
