A Weird MLS Moment Saw A Manager Get A Yellow, Translator Get A Red

Saturday night there was an MLS tilt between Colorado Rapids and San Jose Earthquake. The former sits in the top half of the Western Conference, while the latter has struggled this year but is capable of playing some really eye-catching, high-paced football when things are going well for them. .

The reason for the latter is coach Matias Almeyda, whose holistic approach has resulted in his team playing some kind of real football or going hungry from time to time. What he never seemed to be was a particularly mean guy, even though he was stuck with a red card received in Saturday’s game.

Agustin Zalazar, Earthquakes’ head of coaching communications and who handles translations for the club’s Argentine manager, emerged a little in the 69th minute of the game. As a result, he received a red card and was sent off, but it wasn’t for whatever Almeyda said – instead, he received a yellow card and could stick around.

After the game ended in a 1-1 draw, Almeyda vented some frustration at the way games played out in the MLS, his favorite league.

Football is a huge sport that is played everywhere, so chances are this has happened before elsewhere. But with that disclaimer aside, I’ve never seen anything like an interpreter getting a warm-up while a manager picks up yellow.
