A spooky cult favorite is free today for Christmas

The Disappearance of Ethan Carter, a horror walking simulator from 2014 is now a free Download on Epic Games Store.

Developed and published by Polish studio The Astronauts, The Disappearance of Ethan Carter is an open world game that encourages players to explore and discover as much or as little they want from the experience. While it’s easy for the player to “finish” the game, to get to the final ending you have to fully explore the game and its many puzzles.

Players will control Paul Prospero, a detective with a knack for uncovering the occult. Prospero is led to Red Creek Valley by a letter from a boy named Ethan Carter and must find out what happened. High efficiency in its mystery, and as well as a low horror experience that will keep you tense all the time. If you need a game for a quiet night, preferably even when it rains, this is the perfect game to pick up.

The game received generally positive reviews when it was released in 2014, particularly praise for its atmosphere and writing, with the game’s puzzle section also receiving admiration. The Disappearance of Ethan Carter won the Best Game Innovation Award at the British Academy Games Awards (BAFTA) in 2015 and has continued to be recognized for seven years since its initial release.

The Disappearance of Ethan Carter currently free on Epic Games Store until December 21, which is 100% off its usual $20 price tag. Games are also available on Xbox and PlayStation.
