A Mortal Kombat 12 leak may just “accidentally” happen

It’s been a while since we’ve had any updates on what’s going on at NetherRealm Studios. Last July official support for Mortal Kombat 11 finished more than two years after its release. Since then NetherRealm has been very quiet, quieter than usual. The tweet announcing the end of Mortal Kombat 11The development department just said they are working on their next project, no hint as to what that could be. Today, a manufacturer at NetherRealm may have spilled the beans. ONE Mortal Kombat 12 The leak may have just occurred, and the pea spill could also have been completely intentional.

As detected by VGCJonathan Andersen, senior producer at NetherRealm Studios, tweeted out a picture on his desk, decorated with pictures and documents from Mortal Kombat and Unjust Franchising. However, in the right corner of the photo, you can clearly see on Jonathan’s screen a file named “MK12_Mast”. Looking closely at the screen on the right, you should see a clear email from within NetherRealm. The legible portion of the email reads: “our fans eagerly scour the Internet for any traces” and “Be extra careful with this material.” Blink on the head wink? VGC wrote that the photo was removed about 10 minutes after it was shared.

The information is given so clearly that many believe this is not a “leak” but a calculated tease by the developer. Rumors have been circulating for months about what the studio’s upcoming project might be. Everything from Mortal Kombat 12, Injustice 3, and even a Marvel fighting game has been announced as being in development. However, a Unjust makes sense considering the fragile state of WB Games, the company that has control over games based on DC Comics characters.

Round 12… FIGHT?

Last year there were many rumors that WB Games had sold off in a larger merger between Warner Bros. and AT&T, including NetherRealm Studios. While this ultimately didn’t happen, it was announced last year that WB Games’ parent company, WarnerMedia, would merge with Discovery. However, at this point, the status of WB Games is still unclear in all of these corporate shambles. So Mortal Kombat 12 seems like the safest bet from NetherRealm’s point of view.

Honestly, I’m a bit disappointed that we can go straight from Mortal Kombat 11 in Mortal Kombat 12. I would have loved to see a next generation Unjust will look like, or even be, that rumored Marvel game. Oops, I think we all just want an HD re-release of Shaolin Monks, right? Regardless, we’ll probably know what NetherRealm has sooner rather than later. But, most importantly, if this turns out to be true, get Ash Williams into the game this time!
